Trocaz is a short children's picture book that follows a Madeiran pigeon who is swept away in a storm and finds himself in Aotearoa New Zealand. It was a project made for a university brief focused on visual storytelling and narrative design. I drew inspiration from Aesop's Fables and wrote a story about self-discovery and belonging.
I illustrated the story using coloured pencils on paper, taking inspiration from Aotearoa’s unique wildlife and flora for the design of the characters and environments. The process involved multiple stages of storyboarding, character design, and composition planning to create a playful and engaging visual style aimed at children. This project combined my love for illustration, storytelling, and my own past experience of finding home in a new country.
